If your African net sponge feels too long, you may have wondered: Can I just cut it into a smaller size?
You're not the only one asking.
Traditional African net sponges are intentionally long. The extra length makes it easier to stretch the sponge across your back and other hard to reach areas. But not everyone wants or needs a full length sponge for every shower.
Some people prefer something smaller that's easier to hold, pack or use on the go.
So, can you cut an African net sponge?
Can You Cut an African Net Sponge?
Technically, some African net sponges can be cut. However, we don't recommend cutting your Bellanomi African Net Sponge.
The construction and finished edges of your sponge are designed to help maintain its shape and durability. Cutting it yourself can alter the finished construction and may affect how it holds up over time.
If you prefer a smaller sponge, choosing one that was intentionally made in a shorter size is a better option.
Why Are African Net Sponges So Long?
There's a reason for all that length.
One of the biggest advantages of a traditional African net sponge is its ability to stretch across your body. Hold one end in each hand and you can easily cleanse your back without a back brush or another shower tool.
The longer size also gives you flexibility. Stretch it out for your back or bunch it together in your hand when cleansing your arms, legs and torso.
For many people, that's exactly what makes a full length African net sponge so useful.
But for others, the extra length can feel like more material than they want to manage.
What If I Want a Smaller African Net Sponge?
That's exactly why we created the Bellanomi Mini Classic African Net Sponge.
After repeatedly hearing customers ask for a smaller version of our Classic sponge, we worked with our supplier in Nigeria to develop one that was intentionally made shorter rather than asking customers to cut their full length sponge.
At 22 inches long, the Mini gives you our same Classic texture in a more compact format.
It's especially convenient if you:
- Prefer a smaller sponge in your hands
- Want something compact for everyday showers
- Take your net sponge to the gym
- Travel frequently
- Have limited shower or storage space
- Simply don't need the reach of a 45 inch sponge
Mini vs. Full Length African Net Sponge
Neither size is better. They simply work differently.
Our 45 inch Full Length Classic gives you maximum reach and makes it particularly easy to cleanse your back.
Our 22 inch Mini Classic is easier to pack and gives you less material to handle while still providing the familiar Classic texture and lather.
Think of it as choosing the size that works best for your shower routine.
Does a Smaller African Net Sponge Still Exfoliate?
Yes. The size of the sponge isn't what determines its exfoliation level.
With the Bellanomi Mini Classic, you're getting the same Classic texture as our full length Classic African Net Sponge, just in a shorter format.
That means you don't have to choose between the texture you like and the size you prefer.
Made in Nigeria, in a Size That Fits Your Routine
African net sponges have been part of bathing routines across West Africa for generations, and their long shape serves a purpose.
But your shower routine is personal.
If you love the reach of a traditional net sponge, stick with the full length.
If you've ever looked at yours and thought, “I wish this were a little smaller,” you don't have to reach for the scissors.
That's what the Mini is for.
